Boston Carmen’s Union Endorses Congressman Lynch for Re-Election

Boston, MA - April 21, 2010

The Boston Carmen's Union Local 589 today enthusiastically endorsed Congressman Stephen Lynch for re-election to Congress.

"It is with great pleasure that the Executive Board and Membership of the Boston Carmen's Union Local 589 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, AFL/CIO-CLC has endorsed your candidacy for re-election for Congressman from the 9th Congressional District".

The Amalgamated Transit Union, of which Local 589 is a part, is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 180,000 members in 270 local unions spread across 46 states and nine provinces.

The endorsement went on to say "The Carmen's Union feels very fortunate to have a friend of your stature and integrity running for re-election to Congress in the 9th District. You are a great asset to the working men and women in the 9th District."

Congressman Lynch has long been an advocate of improving transportation security, and was sponsor of the "Rail Transit and Security Safety Act" which would improve rail security nationwide.

Congressman Lynch was honored to have the support of Carmen's Local 589 saying "I am thankful and humbled that the members of Carmen's 589 have recognized my commitment to them. I have enormous respect for the work they do every day to safely and efficiently transport our citizens and will continue my work in Congress to ensure that they receive the support and training they need."
